From time to time, My Grandfather’s War will provide links to websites that we think you will find interesting:

THE MAPLE LEAF LEGACY PROJECT

Steve Douglas, a Canadian living in Ypres, Belgium and owner of the British Grenadier Bookshop, next to the famous Menin Gate, is the founder of The Maple Leaf Legacy Project, a “Project in Remembrance of Canada’s War Dead”. Steve’s aim is “to photograph or obtain a photograph of every Canadian war grave of the 20th century. These photos will be made freely available on the project’s web site.” Steve also operates a battlefield tour company, Salient Tours, if you’re ever in Belgium.

ELLISON TRAVEL & TOURS LTD.

Heather Moffatt, Mak Makowetsky and Linda Klooster of Ellison Travel & Tours Ltd. are proficient in planning and escorting group tours of military sites in Europe and Italy, as well as individual tours should you wish to visit sites of family interest.

Heather and Linda organized a very successful 2010 tour for my husband’s regiment, on which over a dozen serving soldiers and four D-Day veterans toured the unit battlefields of World War 1 and 2.

BROAD ARROW MILITARIA

Broad Arrow Militaria is a very professional Canadian firm which aims “to provide original militaria products to buyers at fair market value”. An interesting site to browse.

THE JUNO BEACH CENTRE

The Juno Beach Centre is a museum and cultural centre, wich opened at Courseulles-sur-Mer, France on June 6, 2003. The Centre presents the war effort of all Canadians, civilian and military alike, both at home and on the various fronts during the Second World War. It is the “Vimy Ridge” of World War 2 for Canada, and the website and the Centre itself are well worth a visit.
