Garth Webb Secondary School opening in Oakville, ON

Garth Webb was a Canadian D-Day veteran as an officer with 14th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery.

In 1995, Garth conceived the idea of the Juno Beach Centre, an education centre and memorial to all who served Canada during the Second World War.  He mounted a nation-wide campaign to raise over $12 million to build the Centre.  His dream was realized on 6 June 2003 with the opening of the JBC in Courseulles-sur-mer, Normandy, France.

Garth was honoured to have Oakville’s newest high school, which opened in September 2012, named after him.  Garth passed away on 8 May 2012, and today, exactly one year after his passing, the new school had its official opening, which I was happy to attend.
